LAST FLIGHT
I recently read about a South African airliner crashing into the ocean just before its destiny. The pilot was on his last flight before retirement. Family and friends had gathered to give a joyful reception but the sad news came. I am reminded of how some individuals put off being saved and then it is too late. Death can come at an unexpected time. The Bible says “You don’t know about tomorrow; you’re life is like a vapor that can quickly vanish away.”
FEW SCRIPTURES
- Man who is born of woman is of few days and full of trouble-(Job 14:1).
- For when a few years are finished I shall go the way of no return-(Job 16:22).
- For the living know that they will die…(Ecc. 9:5).
- And as it is appointed for me to die once, but after this the judgment-(Heb. 9:27).
- Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them-(Rev. 14:13).
FOR MONEY
Years ago I read about a church that found much oil on its property and when the income began to come from the oil wells then the membership began to grow because the large amount of money was divided among the membership. Recently I read about a church in East Texas that has oil wells on its land and on the Sunday when the income from the wells is to be distributed among members there is one hundred percent attendance because if a member is absent that day he loses his share.
ALL THERE
Mary Jones whose “parents forced her to go when she was a child and who doesn’t want to go now” was there. Joe Smith who “works all week and only has Sunday off” was there. The Blacks who “just have to run home and see the folks every week” were there. Even old Uncle John who “can’t get out much any more” was on hand. And yes, young Sam who is up “late Saturday night so that he can’t arise Sunday mornings in time” was there.
IF
If the Lord paid you $50 every Sunday you attended church and Bible study, would you attend any more than you do now? If He should offer you $100 for each person you brought to church and Bible study, would you try to bring more than you are bringing now? If God would give $1,000,000 to the person in each class who knew his lesson best, would you study your Bible more than you do now? How about you-would you do it for money?
YOUR PLACE
I like a church where everybody is somebody and Christ is Lord. It seems to me that Central is that kind of church. Good teaching, good singing, good worship and good fellowship are part of Sunday’s activities. Can you believe that the month of March is about here? Let’s “March for the Master” in March and one march that we need to make each Lord’s Day is the march to the church building. You need to be in your place in order to be part of all the good things that take place. Come with a Bible in your hand and a smile on your face and a spring in your step.
