Pat's Notes
November 1, 2009
WORK
Perhaps in November Jim McBride, a carpenter, will start on some roof work and the stage area. A few days ago some repairs were made to the parking lots and the stripes were repainted. Thanks to Curtis for coordinating this work. As you know in and around a church building things have to be done in order to keep everything looking good and operating smoothly. A certain amount of money must be spent on certain projects each year. Part of the fifth Sunday offerings go to pay for such work.
NOVEMBER
The month of November should remind us of a number of things. One, there is Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26th. This is a special time for family and friends to be together and eat a big meal. Two, Nov. 29th is the fifth Sunday. It is the time for the all-church-report and it is special giving time. If we can add some to the regular offering it will make a big difference. Pray and plan to give.
GIVE AND GET
I do not believe that anyone should just give to get but it does work that way. Doesn’t it seem as you give that the Lord just keeps blessing you with good things. May we always remember what the Lord through Paul wrote to the early church, “Upon the first day of the week, let every one of you lay by him and store, as God has prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.” Also he wrote, “But this I say, he who sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly, and he who sows bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposes in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
PRAY AND BELIEVE
I need to repeat some things I said in last week’s bulletin. First, we are going forward with efforts for a youth and family man to work with us. Second, we need to aim for an offering of about $3000 each week. Perhaps we can reach this goal sometime early next year Third, we are making some contacts and will be making more as time goes on. Fourth, if things go well we should have found someone to work with us by the middle of next year. Fifth, we ask all to pray and believe that we can find a good family who can work with us. Pray every day.
GET READY
Only a few days remaining in 2009 (about 60 days). No wonder the Bible speaks of numbering your days. No man has many days on this earth. What you are going to do for the Lord then hurry and do it. I know this, some need to be saved. By this I mean you need to believe and be baptized. Others need to be restored to your first love and zeal. Perhaps you know you have become lukewarm. That is a serious condition. Repent and pray before it is too late. The Spirit and the Bride say come and in your heart you need to say as the prodigal, “I will return and I will do it today.” May all of us live in such a way that we can die in the Lord and then at the end hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Be in your place every Sunday. Come with a Bible in your hand and a spring in your step and a smile on your face. I’ll look for you.
