FINAL SUNDAY
We have come to the final Sunday in 2010. Many good things have been accom-plished this year. We are grateful and thankful for the efforts in the Family and Youth Ministry. We appreciate all the families who help in a special way and thanks to R.A. for coordinating these efforts. It seems to me that one of the high-lights each week is the leading of the young men in our Wednesday night devotion-als.
IF CAN
Next year (2011) can be one of the greatest years in this church. May each of us go forward in every good work. If you can attend, then attend. If you can teach, then teach. If you can encourage someone, then encourage. If you can give, then give. If you can pray more often, then pray. If you can work a little more, then work. If you can invite someone to church, then invite. If you can help save one soul, then do it. If you can love Christ and His church more, then do it. If you can rejoice more, then rejoice. If you can think of other good things to do, then do it and do it soon.
THREE BOOKS
The wonderful man and preacher, Marshall Keeble, used to say, “It takes three books to preach the Gospel; the pocket-book, the song book and the Bible book.” Brother Keeble was right and to some extent, if the church is to go and grow in any generation, it takes “three books.” With the great and good things we hope to do in the New Year, we need to aim for a goal of over 200 in attendance each week and also an offering of about $3500. The Lord has blessed us and He will continue. The Lord gave and He still gives and may we always remember His love and care for us as we serve Him in our short time on this earth. We can lay up treasures in Heaven.
TWO BEARS
As we think about the New Year, I want to relate a little story about “two bears” and how they can help us in 2011. In a village lived an old couple who often had harsh arguments and quarrels. Everyone knew about their fights. One day the couple stopped quarreling, and their loud arguments were never heard again. Peo-ple wondered what caused the change in the old couple. Finally someone asked them about it. “Two bears did it” said the wife. “Two bears? What do you mean?” The old woman replied, “Two bears were found in the Bible. One in Galatians 6:2 and the other is in Ephesians 4:2.” May every home and every church have these “two bears.”
TODAY
Some members may not get excited and look forward to the First Day of the Week but I believe such an attitude is the exception and not the rule. Most Christians whom I know are ready for Sunday. They are ready for singing, praying and preaching. It is time to commune at the Lord’s Table and it is time to cheerfully give and it is time to enjoy some of the best fellowship in the world. Come with a Bible in your hand and a smile on your face and a spring in your step. I’ll look for you in your place.
